The Foundation

OUR MISSION

The mission of the New York State YMCA Foundation, Inc. is to support the YMCAs within New York State and to provide assistance to them in promoting the programs and services they deliver to all people regardless of race, religion, background, or economic status.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

In 1870, the organization began as the New York State Executive Committee (NYSEC). In its original form, the committee was intended to oversee and support YMCAs in the form of staff and services. In 1970, due to organizational changes at YMCA of the USA the work done by the NYSEC became a function of Y-USA, spurring the NYSEC to restructure and take on a new mission.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

Today, the New York State YMCA Foundation operates with a Board of Directors and a Board of Trustees, whom are responsible for allocating and distributing funds from the endowment.  The Foundation is integral in the development and continuance of YMCA programs and services delivered in New York State. Through its fund development work, it serves as a conduit of financial support to strengthen Associations in the Empire State to expand their participation in critical program initiatives. It strives to serve as an active partner to the Alliance of New York State YMCAs. The New York State YMCA Foundation supports efforts which contribute to the public’s understanding of the YMCA Movement and the importance of the YMCA to the local community.
